Our Story

From Altea, with love from India

Indian Elephant began as a family restaurant in Altea, a small coastal town on Spain's Costa Blanca. For years, friends and customers asked the same thing: "Where can we get textiles like these at home?" The hand-blocked napkins, the soft cotton runners, the woven cushions that made every table feel a little warmer.

So we started bringing them across — directly from the artisan families in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu we've worked with for over a decade.

The foutas

Our beach foutas are the heart of the collection. Handwoven on traditional looms from 100% breathable cotton, they're absorbent enough for the shower, lightweight enough for a beach bag, and soft enough to live on your sofa.

Each piece carries small variations — slubs in the weave, slight shifts in dye — because that's what handmade looks like. No two are identical.

Fair pay, real provenance

Every fouta is made by weavers we know by name, paid above local market rates, in workshops we visit. No middlemen, no warehouse markup.

Come say hi

If you're in Altea, the restaurant is on Calle La Mar. Stop in for a meal and you'll see the textiles in action.
